AutoMeter - Street Series Probe Kit - 5249

This probe kit from AutoMeter’s Street Series is designed as a high-quality replacement thermocouple assembly for use with compatible AutoMeter pyrometer/EGT gauges. The kit includes a ¼-inch diameter stainless steel closed-tip probe (for accurate exhaust gas temperature measurement), a length of wiring (≈ 10.5 ft in one version) for flexible installation routing, a ¼″ compression to 1/8″ NPT connector, and heat-shrink tubing for secure sealing of wiring connections. 

It is ideal for street performance vehicles where accurate temperature monitoring of exhaust or other high-heat zones is needed. This kit is sold as a replacement — many new gauges already include a comparable probe. It is not intended for digital-gauge systems requiring different probe types.

Compatibility & Installation Notes

• Confirm your current gauge uses a compatible thermocouple probe and that the existing probe is replaceable. Many new AutoMeter gauges already include a probe, so this kit is meant for replacement or upgrade. 

• Select a suitable mounting location for the probe where it measures the exhaust or other target temperature zone effectively — typical placement is in the exhaust manifold, header, or down-pipe, away from extreme radiant heat if possible.

• Route the wiring harness carefully, avoiding contact with high-heat sources, sharp edges, or moving parts. Secure the wiring to prevent damage during use.

• Use the included compression fitting and 1/8″ NPT connector to install the probe securely. Apply proper sealing and ensure no exhaust leak occurs at the probe mount.

• After installation, test the gauge to verify accurate reading and that wiring/connection is secured properly. If using with a Street Series gauge, verify calibration and function according to the gauge’s instruction manual.

• Because this is a replacement accessory and not a full gauge kit, ensure your gauge’s electronics and probe type (closed-tip vs open-tip) match the kit’s specifications before purchasing/installation.
